Premature greying of hair is a significant issue that affects both men and women, particularly in India, where grey hair is often linked with old age. Fortunately, there are ways to manage and improve this condition.

This article will delve into the topic of premature greying hair, explore factors that can exacerbate the condition, and provide effective solutions for dealing with premature grey hair.

What Does Ayurveda Say About White Hair?

Ayurveda offers valuable insights into the topic of grey hair. Its principles revolve around the three doshas – Pitta, Vata, and Kapha. According to Ayurveda, the premature greying of hair is attributed to the imbalance or vitiation of Bhrajaka Pitta, which is a specific subtype of the Pitta dosha. This imbalance hampers the production of melanin in the hair, leading to premature greying.

Causes of Premature White Hair?

Premature grey hair can have various causes. While genetic factors play a role in some individuals experiencing grey hair at a young age, there are other contributing factors to consider as well. These factors include:

1. Genetic Predisposition: Some people have a genetic tendency to develop grey hair earlier in life, which can be inherited from their parents or ancestors.

2. Anaemia: Anemia, a condition characterized by a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood, can contribute to premature greying. Iron deficiency anemia, in particular, may impact the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for hair color.

3. Prolonged Exposure to UV Rays: Excessive and prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can damage the hair follicles and disrupt melanin production, leading to premature greying.

4. Excessive Use of Harsh Chemicals on Hair: Regularly using harsh chemicals on the hair, such as hair dyes, bleaches, and chemical-based styling products, can weaken the hair follicles and interfere with melanin production, potentially causing premature greying.

While there is an abundance of hair dye treatments available in the market, it is important to note that they can have side effects and negative implications. Some dyes may contain harsh chemicals that can further damage the hair and scalp.

If you are seeking a safe and effective remedy for premature grey hair, natural home remedies can be a viable option. Here are three examples:

1. Amla (Indian Gooseberry): Amla is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which can help nourish hair follicles, promote melanin production, and prevent premature greying. Applying amla oil or consuming fresh amla juice can be beneficial.

2. Curry Leaves: Curry leaves have properties that can help restore pigment to the hair and prevent greying. Boil a handful of curry leaves in coconut oil, strain the mixture, and apply it to the scalp regularly.

3. Onion Juice: Onion juice contains catalase, an enzyme that can prevent the buildup of hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicles, which is known to contribute to greying. Applying onion juice to the scalp can potentially slow down or reverse premature greying.

It’s important to note that individual results may vary, and it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before trying any natural remedies or making significant changes to your hair care routine.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

1. Take a clean, dry pan and add 1 cup of coconut oil to it. Heat the oil over low heat until it becomes warm.

2. Once the oil is warm, add a handful of fresh curry leaves to the pan. Allow the leaves to simmer in the oil for a few minutes.

3. Continue heating the oil with curry leaves for a few more minutes, ensuring that the leaves release their essence into the oil.

4. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool down to a comfortable temperature.

5. Once the mixture has cooled, strain it to remove the curry leaves, leaving behind the infused coconut oil.

6. Gently massage the infused coconut oil onto your scalp and hair, ensuring thorough coverage from roots to tips.

7. After massaging, leave the oil on your hair for at least 30 minutes, allowing it to deeply penetrate the hair follicles.

Using this coconut oil and curry leaves remedy regularly can help nourish the scalp, strengthen the hair follicles, and potentially slow down the greying process. Both coconut oil and curry leaves are known for their beneficial properties in promoting hair health.

Note: As with any natural remedy, individual results may vary, and it’s always recommended to consult a healthcare professional or a qualified hair specialist before trying any new treatments or making significant changes to your hair care routine.

  2. please tell me is there any ready made treatment in the market which turn white hair into naturally black.

  3. These seem very good! Thanks so much! I’m a natural hair product junkie but after using just about everything in the book I’ve come to the conclusion that my hair reacts incredibly well to argan oil. Particularly Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan oil. Must be because it’s not greasy, has no silicones and it just smells great. I only need a bit after my shower and voila! I had to get it online from beyas.ca but it's really worth it.
